What a Horse Needs

A horse needs its fill of much needed nutrients. Whether you take your horse on occasional trail rides or bring him to horse shows regularly, you should give it feeds and horse supplements that are suited to its needs. Here are some tips to keep in mind:

  • Know your horse’s weight, age, and how it holds weight. Some horses need less feed while others literally “eat like a horse”.
  • Determine how you use your horse. An animal that is ridden every day has heavier feed and supplement requirements than a horse that is ridden once in a while.
  • Ask your veterinarian about various options and request for additional information regarding nutrition and feeding applications.
  • Avoid buying feeds and supplements in bulk that will last for more than 2 weeks as feed can spoil and become moldy which would be dangerous to a horse’s health.
