There are advantages to crate training dogs. These animals have a natural urge to find the comfort and security of its own space. By providing a puppy with an indoor dog crate early on, you not only satisfy its need for a safe enclosure, small dog crates are ideal housebreaking tool. A crate can lower separation anxiety, prevent destructive behavior, and keep a puppy away from things in the house he shouldn’t play with.

Have patience as you train your puppy. It will take around 2 to 3 weeks of working with a dog crate for a puppy to become successfully house trained. Once it is housebroken, the crate can then be left open all the time. Your pet will continue to use it as its own private haven.
